About CPS

Mastering is often seen as some sort of "black art", having no knowledge of the occult we can assure you it is not.  A skilled ear and a remarkably accurate listening environment are at the core of a great mastering studio.  At Vancouver's CPS Mastering, each project is treated individually, keeping the integrity of the mixes intact while providing clients with a polished final product that both protects and complements the work of the team who created it.  We use a mix of quality analog and precision digital equipment to provide the best possible product to your listeners, on CD, vinyl, or any form of digital distribution.

mg 3226CPS Mastering's owner and engineer is Brock McFarlane.  He began his career in audio engineering studying physics at the University of Alberta which led to the audio engineering program at the Pacific Audio Visual Institute in Vancouver, where Brock received his honours diploma. After interning with local jedi Shawn Cole, he went on to engineer at the infamous Hipposonic and Mushroom Studios assisting and engineering on projects including Carly Rae Jepsen, Marianas Trench, K-os, Hedley, and Hey Ocean.  Brock was also a member of the team that constructed Hipposonic's SSL mix studio in Vancouer under the guidance of world renowned studio designer John Vrtacic.  Not satisfied to simply work with audio, but striving to understand the electrical and acoustic principles behind it, has lead Brock to study and experiment with electrical and acoustical engineering, designing and modifying audio equipment as well as acoustic treatments for his own Vancouver mastering studio and others.

CPS Mastering's critical listening room is located in the legendary Little Mountain Sound Studios' former home at 201 West 7th Ave in Vancouver BC. This location has recently undergone a transformation into the new home of Fader Mountain Sound. CPS Mastering is thrilled to share this historic space with Fadermaster studios (Paul Boechler, Shawn Cole, Kevin Kowal, and Daniel Byrne). The Farm Studios (Garth Richardson), and Fly Fantastic Productions (Ben Kaplan). It is a wonderful building with a rich history of music, filled with wonderful nerds.
